PONY PARLOR PAGE 2 - HAIR STYLING
*NOTE*: You should probably not style a pony's hair if it still has nice original curl if you want to keep it in original condition. That being said, even the prettiest ponies may need a trip to the hair salon. Many of my ponies had frizzy, braided, or just plain messy hair. I always keep their original style, meaning if they are a curly haired pony I curl it, if they had straight hair I keep it straight. But you can do whatever you wish with your ponies :)
STEP 1: Wash your pony (see page 1). Now wash your pony's hair. This is hard but always try to not get water inside your pony. Simply angle your pony so the water always runs AWAY from it's mane and tail holes. I also never apply the shampoo directly to the pony's hair. I lather it up a bit and then work into the hair. Then I let it sit a minimum of 1 minute to let the conditioner work into the hair. Once that time has passed I rinse the pony's hair and pat until it's damp to the touch, always making sure to dry the base of the tail most so it won't develop rust. Be sure to also dry your pony's body so it will not attract mold.
STEP 2: Set your pony's hair. Determine what kind fo curl you want.
STRAIGHT: If the pony has straight hair but you want a little curl you can lay the mane against the neck and wrap the tail around the leg. I always start from the inside, others start from the outside, it is all up to you. Hold it tight and wrap firmly in a hand towel. Let your pony sit until the hair is dry. After it is dry I unwrap the pony and style as desired. You can add a bow or clip or whatever you choose. I do not like to comb out the tail but sometimes I may comb out the mane t give it a little volume.

Before and After pictures of Straight hair ponies:
REGULAR CURLY: For regular curly-haired ponies I use the cut straw pieces and small claw hair clips. I separate the tail into two strands and wrap each one on the straw starting at the bottom. Once I get to the base of the tail I clip it in place with the small claw clip. I do this for each strand. For the mane I use either two or three straw pieces and repeat the same process as for the tail. Some curly haired ponies originally had the forelock remain straight (see Birthflower pony below). You can choose to leave it or curl it depending on your preference. After he hair is all held in place I wrap the pony in a towel to dry and set. Now once the pony's hair is dry I unclip the curl and SLIDE out the straw piece. I DO NOT unroll the curl. The hair will be still in the tight curl (see Sundance below). I never comb or brush the newly curled hair out. This will cause frizzy hair. What I do is simply take the pony by the body or feet and flip her gently from side to side. This releases the curls and creates a bouncy new look for your pony.
